The 2021 Specialized Turbo Vado 4.0 Electric Bike in Carbon/Black is custom tuned for city riding. It gives you an upright riding position but is sporty enough to get your around quickly. With an award winning Specialized pedal-assist electric motor you will be able to speed away from lights and up hills.
The Turbo Vado comes with a Specialized 1.2 motor. The 1.2 with Custom Rx Street Tune gives less torque but more efficiency in a near-silent operating design that makes it more usable for an urban environment. A custom Specialized U1-500 battery seamlessly integrates into the frame, is lockable, and easily removable for simplified charging. It has a 500 Wh capacity which gives plenty of range for running around town on as well as longer rides.
The new wired Turbo Connect Display (TCD-w) is the best way to view data on your Turbo. It not only displays important ride metrics (speed, cadence, rider power, distance, battery level, time, etc.), it also allows you to connect the latest version of the Mission Control App for an enhanced Turbo experience. The free app for iOS and Android phones, you easily customize motor parameters, control your range, record/upload rides, and perform basic system diagnosis.
The Vado 4.0 comes with fast rolling 700c wheels that have wide 47mm tyres with reflective sidewalls to soak up bumps and make you more visible at the same time. Reliable 10 speed Shimano gears and hydraulic disc brakes take care of stopping and going. The Vado 4.0 comes complete with mudguards an pannier rack, bell and front and rear lights all fitted to you are ready to go.

What is Specialized Mission Control?
Mission Control is a free app created by Specialized to work with their Turbo electric bikes. The app is exclusive to Specialized and unlocks a lot of features which you can’t get on other electric bike systems. Specialized recommend that everyone who has one of their electric bikes should pair it to Mission Control.
Mission control has been around for a few years and has gradually been evolving and improving. It covers four main areas:
- Track your rides – record speed, distance, maps etc
- Tune your ride – adjust max power, acceleration and other settings
- Manage your ride – make sure you don’t run out of power
- Fix your ride – get notified of errors and access diagnostics, including suggested fixes

Electric Bike Hub Motors vs Mid-Drive Motors
Electric bikes tend to either come with a hub motor or a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors sit where the cranks and bottom bracket are on a bike and drive the cranks and chain around. Hub drive motors sit in the middle of the wheel and drive the wheel directly. Hub drive electric bikes are cheaper but less efficient, and less smooth, to ride.
