The 2024 Trek Marlin+ 8 Hardtail Electric Mountain Bike is ready to up your game on the trail. Its Bosch Active Line Plus motor gives you just the boost you need for getting up steep climbs and riding further, and doesn't break the bank, and a 120 mm suspension fork keeps handling smooth through the rough stuff.
The Marlin+ 8 is built around an Alpha Platinum Aluminium frame with real mountain bike geometry and a coil-sprung 120 mm fork. The smallest sizes come with a curved top tube and smaller 27.5 wheels to increase the stand over height. The larger bikes come with a straight top tube and 29" wheels for extra speed. The reliable Bosch Active Line Plus 50 Nm drive system is paired with a compact Purion 200 remote with built-in display and a 400wh battery.
On the Marlin+ 8 you get 12-speed Shimano Deore shifting, hydraulic disc brakes and wide, 2.6 in tubeless-ready wheels that boost grip and help prevent flats.

Electric Bike Motors Explained

A couple of bike manufacturers, most notably Specialized, are making their own electric bike motors. The vast majority of bike companies are using the same motors. So, you will find exactly the same electric motor being used on bikes from different brands and at different price points. Electric Bike Hub Motors vs Mid-Drive Motors
Electric bikes tend to either come with a hub motor or a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors sit where the cranks and bottom bracket are on a bike and drive the cranks and chain around. Hub drive motors sit in the middle of the wheel and drive the wheel directly. Hub drive electric bikes are cheaper but less efficient, and less smooth, to ride.

Trek Electric Bike Range Guide
The Trek electric bike range has been pretty enormous at times. This has mainly been due to a single model of bike being available in multiple battery and colour variations so you quickly ended up with dozens of variants. Thankfully Trek have scaled this back a little recently, and their electric bike range is now easier to understand.
Until recently nearly all Trek electric bikes came with Bosch motors. For the 2023 season they are continuing with Bosch but also introducing motors from new brands like TQ and Hydrive on selected models.
