2021 Cannondale Topstone Neo Lefty Carbon 1 Electric in Emerald is the gravel bike to beat all gravel bikes. Cannondale's Topstone range has been extremely popular largely due to Cannondale's fearless approach to innovation; you don't achieve great inventions like the Kingpin and Lefty without being a bit of a mad scientist.
The Neo Lefty 1 is an electric gravel bike with power assistance from Bosch's latest integrated battery and motor system, the most advanced electric-assist units in the world. A mid-motor drive unit for balanced weight, giving you a natural feeling ride with excellent handling. Drive units provide incredible torque and power for effortlessly climb hills and easily change gear. The huge 500 Wh battery keeps you going faster and further. The durable, reliable Bosch Performance Line CX 250W drive unit and powerful intergrated Bosch PowerTube 500Wh battery give you the speed you need, with the juice to go the distance. The Neo Lefty 1 also features SRAM XG-1275, GX Eagle, 10-50, 12-speed cassette, SRAM X01 Eagle eTap AXS Rear Derailleur, SRAM Force eTap AXS HRD, 2x12 shifters, SRAM Force AXS 180/160mm hydraulic disc brakes and SRAM Force AXS brake levers.
High-volume 650b wheels offer even more off-road ability and on-road comfort add in the revolutionary, super-light bump-erasing smoothness provided by Kingpin suspension you'll ride harder on dirt and more smoothly on the pavement. Finally to give this gravel bike that extra capability the new Lefty Oliver fork with 30mm of smooth, bump-taming suspension and an incredibly stiff, precise-handling structure. Make the Topstone Lefty the most off-road capable and on-road comfortable road bike ever made.
The Dialed Endurance Fit offers a balanced riding position upright enough for comfort during long rides and maintaining control when tackling technical terrain, yet low and forward enough for speed efficiency. Internal cable routing makes it easy to add a dropper post which adds even more off-road perks that you don't see on every gravel bike. The Lefty has big tire clearance loads of gear and storage mounts. Fully mudguard ready. A removable mudguard bridge on the rear stays means its there when you need it, gone when you don't.
Also included is the Cannondale connectivity app. Cannondale has worked with Garmin on the wheel sensor. Available to download on both Android and Apple stores. Once downloaded and logged in, it takes an impressive 20 seconds to pair with your bike by merely spinning the front wheel. The app has four features Ride, Garage, Resources and Warranty.
- Ride enables precise ride results for distance, time and Calories for the last 30 rides without having to take your phone with you or remembering to press record. The sensor also has Bluetooth and ANT transmission so pairing with your turbo trainer and recording those rides is simple. Interestingly the app will also calculate how your adventures have reduced your carbon footprint for the lifetime of your bike.
- Garage stores the measurements of your bike fit and service History. The Cannondale app also takes care of your bikes health, prompting you when your bike needs a service based on the miles you've covered.

- From a dealer perspective, there is a dealer version of the app providing the bike fit and bike diagnostics. The Pros of Commuting on a Gravel Bike
Gravel bikes are fast, nearly as quick as a standard road bike. They are certainly quicker on the road than most mountain bikes and many hybrids. That means you can get to work, and home, in the shortest time possible. But what makes gravel bikes so good for commuting is that they are extremely versatile. They can be ridden on tarmac, cycle paths, old railway lines, canal towpaths, and even off-road trails. So, it’s easy to mix it up on your commute and avoid traffic.
Another big advantage of commuting on a gravel bike is that they're generally more comfortable than road bikes. This is because they have wider tyres and longer wheelbases, which results in a smoother and more stable ride. So you don’t get bounced around as much on rough roads. Most gravel bikes have a fairly upright riding position which makes it easier to see what’s going on in traffic. The combination of stable handling and the comfortable riding position is a massive confidence boost for the rider, especially on wet roads.
