The 2026 Specialized Rockhopper Base Hardtail Mountain Bike has been one of our go-to beginners mountain bikes for years. Although the bike gets updated very year they continue to be great value and super capable bikes. If you want an affordable entry point to off-road riding you can't go far wrong with a Rockhopper.
The heart of the Rockhopper is a lightweight yet durable Premium A1 Aluminium frame. It uses hydroformed top and downtubes in order to keep weight low and strength high, all while providing increased standover clearance, slick internal cable routing and dropper-post compatibility. The smaller sizes of the Rockhopper use 27.5" wheels while the larger bikes have 29" wheels. The result is a Rockhopper to fit every rider and the assurance that every Rockhopper is rolling on the best-handling wheel for its frame size.
The Base model Rockhopper uses RX tuned Suspension. The SR Suntour XCM with custom Multi-Circuit damping has size-specific travel and spring rates. The reliable and crisp Shimano drivetrain provides a robust 2x9 drivetrain that can handle everything you're throw down while confident braking from Shimano hydraulic disc brakes seals the deal of the century.
