The Fuel EXe 9.7 redefines e-mountain biking with an entirely new motor that tucks away neatly for a ride that's light, lively and just as playful as a traditional mountain bike, with the added benefit of pedal-assist to help you crush climbs. An upgraded suspension package pairs with cherry-picked components for snappy shifting and precise modulation on the trail. All that, and a lightweight carbon chassis to keep your ride nimble and stiff with just the right amount of vibration-damping goodness for when the trail gets rowdy.

It's right for you if...

You want the feel of a playful trail bike, plus a little extra power on the climbs. You want upgrades where it counts the most, like a premium suspension package and the perfect blend of components. You don't want to lose out on the natural experience of mountain biking, and want a refined motor that quietly assists while you ride.

The tech you get

An OCLV Mountain Carbon frame equipped with a fully encased 360 Wh battery and TQ harmonic pin ring transmission with a smart charging port, integrated LED display and discreet handlebar remote. 150 mm FOX Rhythm 36 fork with Float EVOL air spring and GRIP damper, and 140 mm FOX Performance Float X rear suspension. Plus tubeless-ready wheels and tyres, and a 12-speed drivetrain of cherry-picked Shimano SLX and XT components.

The final word

The Fuel EXe 9.7 is a playful trail ride that gives you extra fuel in the tank on climbs, and rides like a traditional bike on descents. It's packed with the space-age technology of a TQ transmission, 150 mm of buttery-smooth travel for soaking up rock gardens, and a cherry-picked drivetrain that gives you upgrades where it matters most.

Why you'll love it

  1. You'll get a light and playful ride on descents, and just the right amount of assist on the way back up
  2. Its tiny-but-mighty TQ transmission is tuned for the trail, keeping things quiet so you can stay in the moment, plus it ramps up power with you for a natural ride feel
  3. The smart charge port, sleek integrated display and discreet controls keep the bike looking and feeling like a traditional mountain bike
  4. Its upgraded FOX suspension package offers you 150 mm of front- and 140 mm of rear-suspension for making quick work of technical and rowdy terrain
  5. You'll be able to add on a range extender when you want a little extra fuel in the tank for big days on the bike

As electric bikes have become more sophisticated it’s important to stay on top of updates. Just like your home computer or smart phone regular updates are now released for most electric bike systems. Electric Bike Motors Explained

Electric bikes have really come into their own in the last couple of years. Thanks to advances in electric bike motors and batteries. A couple of bike manufacturers, most notably Specialized, are making their own electric bike motors. The vast majority of bike companies are using the same motors. So, you will find exactly the same electric motor being used on bikes from different brands and at different price points. In this guide, we’ll take you through the main types of electric bike motors. Look at the differences between the most commonly used brands.

Electric Bike Hub Motors vs Mid-Drive Motors

Electric bikes tend to either come with a hub motor or a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors sit where the cranks and bottom bracket are on a bike and drive the cranks and chain around. Hub drive motors sit in the middle of the wheel and drive the wheel directly. Hub drive electric bikes are cheaper but less efficient, and less smooth, to ride.

Trek Electric Bike Range Guide

The Trek electric bike range has been pretty enormous at times. This has mainly been due to a single model of bike being available in multiple battery and colour variations so you quickly ended up with dozens of variants. Thankfully Trek have scaled this back a little recently, and their electric bike range is now easier to understand.

Until recently nearly all Trek electric bikes came with Bosch motors. For the 2023 season they are continuing with Bosch but also introducing motors from new brands like TQ and Hydrive on selected models.

Trek made their first bikes in 1976 in a barn in Wisconsin. Now they’re one of the biggest bike brands in the world. Trek bikes cover everything from professional-level road and mountain bike race bikes to commuters, hybrids and kids bikes. There is a strong heritage of racing at Trek and many Trek bikes have a strong race influence. They take a very scientific approach to researching bike and human performance and then make the fastest and most efficient bikes they can.

It doesn’t stop their attention and passion for cycling flows through everything they do. Since the 1990s, Trek has supported Places for Bikes. Places for Bikes is an advocacy organisation in the USA that gets more people on bikes more often! Places for Bikes ethos falls in line with the companies mission statement to:

Build only products we love. Provide incredible hospitality to our customers, and change the world by getting more people on bikes.
