The 2022 Specialized Turbo Tero 4.0 EQ Electric Mountain Bike is an electric mountain bike equipped for everyday rides. A mountain bike that you can commute on. A commuter you can take touring. A touring bike that you can haul freight with. Whatever you need it to be, for wherever you want to go. The EQ version comes fitted with mudguards, a pannier rack and lights.

The Tero 4.0 comes with a Turbo Full Power 2.0 Motor and 710 Wh Battery- Integrated into the aluminium frame. Together they effectively quadruple your own power, cranking out ample wattage to make short work of the steepest climbs and providing enough extra muscle to let you carry a mountain of adventure gear, groceries and kids without breaking a sweat. It’s you, only faster. But what really sets this motor apart from the rest is how efficiently and seamlessly it melds with your own efforts.

The Turbo Tero 4.0 EQ comes with mountain bike equipment including 11 speed SRAM mountain bike gearing, SRAM Guide T 4 piston brakes a Rockshox Recon Silver TK 110mm travel suspension fork and a dropper post.

This bike is perfect for

Anyone who wants an electric mountain bike which is fully off-road capable but can also handle everyday use for commuting or running errands.

Key Features

  • Mission Control and MasterMind- Mission Control allows you to tailor Tero’s power output levels to your desired preference—all three standard power modes can be almost infinitely adjusted to suit your power and range needs. MasterMind’s MicroTune function can adjust power output levels in 10% increments so that you can tune the range to suit your needs.
  • Mountain Bike DNA- Tero’s componentry is tailored to enhance control and confidence. Aggressive but smooth rolling 29” wheels with 2.3” Ground Control tires offer ample traction in every situation, SRAM disc brakes deliver substantial braking bite, 110 mm of front suspension travel smooths the trail, and a dropper seatpost is there for when you need to really get down in technical off-road situations.
  • Turbo System Lock - Use the Mission Control app to disable your bike’s motor and activate the motion sensor alarm. Once locked, the motor cannot be enabled again except by the owner.
  • Equipped with DRYTECH mudguards, LED front and rear lights, and 27kg capacity rear HD Rack. The rear rack is compatible with child bike seats, and the bike is rated to pull a thru-axle trailer.

What is Specialized Mission Control?

Mission Control is a free app created by Specialized to work with their Turbo electric bikes. The app is exclusive to Specialized and unlocks a lot of features which you can’t get on other electric bike systems. Specialized recommend that everyone who has one of their electric bikes should pair it to Mission Control.

Mission control has been around for a few years and has gradually been evolving and improving. It covers four main areas:

  1. Track your rides – record speed, distance, maps etc
  2. Tune your ride – adjust max power, acceleration and other settings
  3. Manage your ride – make sure you don’t run out of power
  4. Fix your ride – get notified of errors and access diagnostics, including suggested fixes

Electric Bike Motors Explained

Electric bikes have really come into their own in the last couple of years. Thanks to advances in electric bike motors and batteries. A couple of bike manufacturers, most notably Specialized, are making their own electric bike motors. The vast majority of bike companies are using the same motors. So, you will find exactly the same electric motor being used on bikes from different brands and at different price points. In this guide, we’ll take you through the main types of electric bike motors. Look at the differences between the most commonly used brands.

Electric Bike Hub Motors vs Mid-Drive Motors

Electric bikes tend to either come with a hub motor or a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors sit where the cranks and bottom bracket are on a bike and drive the cranks and chain around. Hub drive motors sit in the middle of the wheel and drive the wheel directly. Hub drive electric bikes are cheaper but less efficient, and less smooth, to ride.

Who are Specialized?

Specialized is one of the best-known quality bike brands in the world. Started by a group of riders in 1974. A fact which has guided their decision making ever since.

" Made for riders, by riders."

They strove to make the best quality tires when quality tyres weren't around. When people wanted to ride cruisers in the dirt, they made the first production mountain bike. When roadies wanted to go faster, Specialized doubled down on carbon and built their own wind tunnel.

Bikes like the Allez, Rockhopper and Stumpjumper have developed followings and reputations of their own. Specialized has a reputation for making high-end, high-quality bikes. Specialized bikes always look great with high-quality paint and sensible sizing hel0s you get the right bike each time. If you buy a Specialized bike you can be guaranteed it will do what it is supposed to and will last.
