The 2022 Specialized Turbo Vado SL 4.0 Step Though Electric Bike is best for workouts, riding beyond the beaten path and last-minute adventures.
The Vado SL 4.0 comes with a Specialized SL 1.1 custom lightweight motor which gives peak power of 240W / 35Nm. This effectively doubles your power (180% assistance). The 320Wh batter is integrated into the downtube so it hardly looks like an electric bike and an optional range extender can be added to give you up to 120 miles of range.
Durable, lightweight alloy wheels paired with fast-rolling, high-grip, Specialized Pathfinder 38c tyres, are as good on gravel as they are on pavement. 11 speed gearing gives plenty of options for getting up hills and extra-bright, built-in lights in front and back mean you'll see and be seen

What is Specialized Mission Control?
Mission Control is a free app created by Specialized to work with their Turbo electric bikes. The app is exclusive to Specialized and unlocks a lot of features which you can’t get on other electric bike systems. Specialized recommend that everyone who has one of their electric bikes should pair it to Mission Control.
Mission control has been around for a few years and has gradually been evolving and improving. It covers four main areas:
- Track your rides – record speed, distance, maps etc
- Tune your ride – adjust max power, acceleration and other settings
- Manage your ride – make sure you don’t run out of power
- Fix your ride – get notified of errors and access diagnostics, including suggested fixes

Electric Bike Hub Motors vs Mid-Drive Motors
Electric bikes tend to either come with a hub motor or a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors sit where the cranks and bottom bracket are on a bike and drive the cranks and chain around. Hub drive motors sit in the middle of the wheel and drive the wheel directly. Hub drive electric bikes are cheaper but less efficient, and less smooth, to ride.
