2021 Orbea Rise M10 Electric Mountain Bike in Sap White and Green Fog Mountain Bike range has a strong concept behind it designed to expand your trail experience and bring you closer to the moment. Capable of handling the widest variety of terrain without making significant compromises in any aspect of performance. Orbea wants to give the benefits of an e-bike without losing the joy of riding manually. They achieved this by creating their own power plant for Rise, which is a daunting task, but Orbea believed that this would be the only way to realise the goal of a complete RS system for trail bikes. When Shimano shared the plans for their new EP8 motor, Orbea realised that this awesome drive unit offered the perfect platform on which to build the RS Power concept. Working jointly with Shimano, Orbea developed the proprietary electronics and batteries while Shimano configured their EP8 motor to work perfectly running Orbea's specific RS firmware.

Rider Synergy (RS) is a new riding experience that enhances the joy of traditional trail riding with smooth support that feels as natural and alive as your own body. Less e more bike is the tagline used, and the concept seems to be to take away the disconnection an electric bike can have instead to enhance rather than dominate the ride.

The RS battery pack is light small and discrete. Lower power consumption and more reliance on your legs extend battery consumption to up to 4 hours for those big rides. For longer rides, you can get the range extender with gives an additional 4 hours ride time that's an eight-hour day in the saddle.

Customisation As we are all different riders and we have different needs, Rise comes with two pre-set RS Power profiles. Both profiles can be fine-tuned in seconds to your liking, using the Shimano E-tube mobile app. Profile one delivers a more subtle support feel, maximising range, and natural riding experience. Profile two is tuned for slightly more assistance within the RS Power parameters.

RS interface is uncluttered, a simple switch and two LEDs to broadcast data. The power button is tucked away by the bottom bracket, and all wires routed internally—the same with the charging port on the side of the seat tube. Protected by tough water and dirt-proof cover, it has an integrated Clean Clip feature that holds plugs tightly when using the RS Range Extender or just sealing the connectors when closed. Rise benefits from the classic GPS and cycle computer data. Orbea developed a unique tool that adapts the Garmin IQ ecosystem to our RS e-bike platform, sending all the data you could wish for to your favourite cycle computer or smartwatch.

Orbea Monocoque Race (OMR) frames add high modulus and high strength fibres to a standard layup to improve stiffness-to-weight ratios. The Rise can weigh as little as 16,5 kg or 36,3lbs.

Alloy E*thirteen 32T Chainring Without the need for an overbuilt steel chainring Orbea developed an exclusive alloy forged and CNC-finished 32T chainring that fits the EP8 RS spider for weight savings but more importantly perfect gearing.

MAXXIS EXO+ REKON MAXX TERRA Orbea worked directly with Maxxis to create an EXO+ version of one of their favourite Trail tires – the Rekon 2.4 3C Maxx Terra EXO+ is an Orbea exclusive.

Rise ticks all the boxes an e-bike that's lightweight and as close to a manual bike as you can get whilst still benefitting from an e-motor. When it comes to weight, noise, and visual distractions, the Rise has done it all for you already. Massive attention to detail and desire has been paid to create something simple yet complex and efficient. Whether you crave riding greater distances, reaching more epic locations, improving efficiency, or increasing the frequency of your adventures, Rise is beyond expectations and the new standard in eMTB.

Electric Bike Motors Explained

Electric bikes have really come into their own in the last couple of years. Thanks to advances in electric bike motors and batteries. A couple of bike manufacturers, most notably Specialized, are making their own electric bike motors. The vast majority of bike companies are using the same motors. So, you will find exactly the same electric motor being used on bikes from different brands and at different price points. In this guide, we’ll take you through the main types of electric bike motors. Look at the differences between the most commonly used brands.

Electric Bike Hub Motors vs Mid-Drive Motors

Electric bikes tend to either come with a hub motor or a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors sit where the cranks and bottom bracket are on a bike and drive the cranks and chain around. Hub drive motors sit in the middle of the wheel and drive the wheel directly. Hub drive electric bikes are cheaper but less efficient, and less smooth, to ride.

Orbea Electric Bike Range Guide

The Orbea electric bike range covers everything from electric hybrids and mountain bikes, through to electric road bikes. Orbea use a range of electric bike systems according to different models. These include Bosch, Shimano and Mahle. Orbea are based in the Basque country and most of their electric bikes are developed and built in their factory there.

H or M?

A lot of Orbea bikes will have a model number such as H30 or M20. Any bike with a H model number will have an aluminium frame. Bikes with an M model number will have a carbon fibre frame. Carbon frames will typically be lighter and smoother to ride but will also be more expensive.

Who are Orbea?

Orbea pronounced Or-bay-ah is named after the brothers who founded the company in 1840. Initially, the company manufactured rifles and guns. The company has been making bikes since the early 1930s and winning Tour de France stages for just as long. All Orbea Bikes are assembled at the Orbea Factory based in the heart of the Basque country in Northern Spain or in their facility in Portugal.

Orbea does things a little differently from many of the big American bike brands. As the heart of Orbea's manufacturing is still in Spain and Portugal Orbea can offer much more customised service. This includes the ability to swap out colours and parts on most of their higher-end bikes to suit individual customers through their MyO program.

Although best known for their road bikes Orbea are increasingly making a name for themselves as a mountain bike brand.
