The 2025 Marin Alpine Trail E2 Full Suspension Electric Mountain Bike is the top of the range bike and comes with an upgraded motor and Fox suspension.

The Shimano-equipped Alpine Trail E features the same great, proven MultiTrac suspension technology as the non-electric bikes, but optimized for the Shimano STEPS system. With this combination there is no need for platform or lockout levers, just get on and blast up the hills. 29” front and 27.5”+ rear wheel sizes are the ideal combination for the Alpine Trail E, with larger front wheel easily rolling over most any trail obstacle and offering the best cornering traction, while the burly 27.5” rear setup adds playfulness and enhances acceleration and braking traction.

The Marin Alpine Trail E2 is the top-end Alpine Trail, ready to tame the roughest and toughest of trails. It comes with a Shimano STEPs EP801 system and a long-lasting 630Wh battery, Fox 38/Float DHX2 Performance Elite suspension and a blend of Shimano XT and SLX 12-speed, including powerful 4-piston brakes

This bike is perfect for

Mountain bikers who want a bike to shuttle them up hills so they can have a blast on the way back down. With a bigger battery and more durable kit the E2 will let you have more fun for longer.

Electric Bike Motors Explained

Electric bikes have really come into their own in the last couple of years. Thanks to advances in electric bike motors and batteries. A couple of bike manufacturers, most notably Specialized, are making their own electric bike motors. The vast majority of bike companies are using the same motors. So, you will find exactly the same electric motor being used on bikes from different brands and at different price points. In this guide, we’ll take you through the main types of electric bike motors. Look at the differences between the most commonly used brands.

Electric Bike Hub Motors vs Mid-Drive Motors

Electric bikes tend to either come with a hub motor or a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors sit where the cranks and bottom bracket are on a bike and drive the cranks and chain around. Hub drive motors sit in the middle of the wheel and drive the wheel directly. Hub drive electric bikes are cheaper but less efficient, and less smooth, to ride.
