The Specialized Flash 500 Headlight brings Flux-style beam control to a more budget-friendly price point. The Flash headlight combines a clean, compact design with a simple-yet-elegant silicone strap.

With two different-sized straps included, you can dial in just the right amount of stretch to keep the Flash secure, while ensuring super fast install and removal. Now you see it, now you don't. Thanks to it's 1400mAh battery pack, the Flash 500 will deliver 500 lumens for 2 hours, all the way up to 125 lumens for 8 hours. 250 lumens of Flash mode gives you a whopping 16 hours of runtime.

Features

  • Single-LED oval beam pattern gives a perfect blend of spot and peripheral visibility.
  • CREE XP-G3 LED delivers big-time lumens.
  • Class-leading 1400mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery pack to back up those lumens with real-world usable runtimes. Micro USB cable included.
  • Installs in seconds with a silicone strap system. Just pull the strap under the handlebar and drop it into the slot on the light body.
  • Includes two different-sized straps to fit every round handlebar cockpit. (Flash headlights are not suitable for aero handlebars.)
  • Extra bright side lights to give you 180-degree visibility to other cyclists and motorists.
  • IPX7 waterproof means this light will be there when you need it, even in the hardest rain.
  • Steady High mode: 500 lumens for 2:00 hours
  • Steady Medium mode: 250 lumens for 4:00 hours
  • Steady Low mode: 125 lumens for 8:00 hours

Bike Lights - How Many Lumen Do You Need?

Bike lights are rated in Lumens. A Lumen is the measurement of the total visible light emitted and is commonly used for all kinds of bulbs.

One thing worth noting is that most lights advertise their headline rate. Packaging may say 1000 lumens. Reading the small print they might only do that for an hour. That light may run 500 or 600 lumens for 2 or 3 hours. So it's worth buying a light with more lumens than you need to get decent running times.

There is no fixed agreement on how many Lumens you need for a bike light as it depends on the type of cycling you are doing. As a rough guide we say that:

  • Daytime running lights = 100+ Lumens
  • Urban commuting lights = 50 to 200 Lumens
  • Rural riding lights = 400 to 600 Lumens
  • Trail riding lights = 600+ Lumens

Who are Specialized?

Specialized is one of the best-known quality bike brands in the world. Started by a group of riders in 1974. A fact which has guided their decision making ever since.

" Made for riders, by riders."

They strove to make the best quality tires when quality tyres weren't around. When people wanted to ride cruisers in the dirt, they made the first production mountain bike. When roadies wanted to go faster, Specialized doubled down on carbon and built their own wind tunnel.

Bikes like the Allez, Rockhopper and Stumpjumper have developed followings and reputations of their own. Specialized has a reputation for making high-end, high-quality bikes. Specialized bikes always look great with high-quality paint and sensible sizing hel0s you get the right bike each time. If you buy a Specialized bike you can be guaranteed it will do what it is supposed to and will last.
