The 2023 Whyte E-160 S 29er Enduro Electric Mountain Bike in Matt Black is the entry level bike in the new E-160 range but it is still a fully featured bike which will take your riding to the next level. As the name suggests the 29er version comes with 29” wheels for a faster rolling bike and maximum speed, this version is available in Medium, Large and Xlarge sizes.

Whyte have always been known for pioneering geometry and suspension. The E-160 has been tuned by Whyte’s Senior Design Engineer Sam Shucksmith, the current and two-time British Enduro Series Champion. The E-160 has been engineered around the central philosophy; that a lowered centre of gravity delivers exceptional cornering agility and confident handling on any terrain. Whyte’s unique solution to mounting the motor and battery mass within the chassis gives uncompromised flow on the trails. And thanks to a huge 750Wh battery and high power 85Nm Bosch Performance Line CX motor, you're geared up for maximum enjoyment on the trails.

The 29er wheels make the E-160 S 29er the fastest option on all but the most tight and technical trails as the bigger wheels roll faster over most obstacles and maintain their speed better. The suspension setup is very similar to the standard E-160 S and S MX with 160mm travel RockShox ZEB fork and Rockshox Deluxe Select R rear shock. But the E-160 S 29er swaps from Shimano to SRAM running gear and comes with 12 speed Eagle gearing and SRAM Guide RE brakes. WTB tubeless ready wheels and Whyte’s own dropper post complete the build.

This bike is perfect for

Enduro and gravity focussed riders who want the fastest rolling bike with big 29er wheels. With a powerful Bosh motor and 750wh battery you can do as many runs as you like.

Electric Bike Motors Explained

Electric bikes have really come into their own in the last couple of years. Thanks to advances in electric bike motors and batteries. A couple of bike manufacturers, most notably Specialized, are making their own electric bike motors. The vast majority of bike companies are using the same motors. So, you will find exactly the same electric motor being used on bikes from different brands and at different price points. In this guide, we’ll take you through the main types of electric bike motors. Look at the differences between the most commonly used brands.

Electric Bike Hub Motors vs Mid-Drive Motors

Electric bikes tend to either come with a hub motor or a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors sit where the cranks and bottom bracket are on a bike and drive the cranks and chain around. Hub drive motors sit in the middle of the wheel and drive the wheel directly. Hub drive electric bikes are cheaper but less efficient, and less smooth, to ride.
