The 2023 Trek Dual Sport 1 Gen 5 Hybrid Bike is a go-anywhere hybrid bike that's fun to ride on a variety of surfaces. It has a light frame and a sturdy drivetrain. The Dual Sport 1 is designed to give a comfortable, confident ride on the road, light gravel trails, bike paths and more.

The Gen 5 Dual Sport comes with a lightweight aluminium frame with sleek internal cable routing. Earlier generations of the Dual Sport came with a suspension fork on the front but the Gen 5 bikes swaps this for a steel fork, wide 650b wheels and wide 50c tyres. This makes the bike a lot lighter but still gives plenty of capability and comfort on varied terrain.

The Dual Sport 1 Gen 5 comes with a reliable 2x8 Shimano drivetrain with a wide range of gearing so you're never pedalling too hard or too soft, comfortable ergonomic grips and mechanical disc brakes for all-weather stopping power.

This bike is perfect for

Riders who want a simple hybrid bike for use on a variety of surfaces. With reliable Shimano gearing and mechanical disc brakes the Dual Sport 1 has all the basics that you need.

Key Features

  • Wide wheels and wide tyres give you the terrain-smoothing comfort and confidence of a suspension fork without the added weight
  • Versatile light gravel tyres are fast on the road and grippy on rougher terrain
  • The lightweight aluminium frame is reliable and sturdy, and it keeps you feeling comfortable while you ride
  • It's easy to accessorise your frame with racks, a kickstand, mudguards, lights and more!

Why buy a hybrid bike?

Hybrids are the bikes that most people should have. If you want a bike for commuting, going to the shops, getting fit or just for getting around a hybrid is generally the best choice. They combine the speed of a road racing bike with the confident handling of a mountain bike to give you the best of both worlds.

Where are you going to ride?

The first point to think about when picking a hybrid is the kind of surfaces you will be riding on. There are two main flavours of hybrid bike. Some, like the Trek FX, Specialized Sirrus and Cannondale Quick are mainly intended for use on the road. They have bigger gears and skinnier tyres so that they are fast on tarmac. Other bikes like the Trek Dual Sport, Specialized Sirrus X or Cannondale Quick CX are designed to be used on a mixture of surfaces including tracks and gravel paths. They have bigger, grippier tyres and often come with easier gears and some suspension to soak up bumps.
