The 2023 Trek Dual Sport 3 Gen 5 Hybrid Bike is a high-performance, go-anywhere hybrid bike that transitions from road to rougher terrain with ease. It has a light frame and a low-maintenance 1x drivetrain with a wide range of gears. Its wide Bontrager Kovee wheels and gravel tyres soak up bumps and rough terrain for a comfortable, confident ride on road, old railway lines and light dirt paths.
The Gen 5 Dual Sport comes with a lightweight aluminium frame with sleek internal cable routing. Earlier generations of the Dual Sport came with a suspension fork on the front but the Gen 5 bikes swaps this for a lightweight carbon fork, wide tubeless ready Bontrager Kovee 650b wheels and wide 50c tyres. This makes the bike a lot lighter but still gives plenty of capability and comfort on varied terrain.
The Dual Sport 3 Gen 5 comes with a simple 1x10 Shimano Deore mountain bike drivetrain with a wide-range 11-46 cassette still gives you all the gears you need to conquer hills. The Dual Sport comes with all the mounts you need for a rack and mudguards so you can easily turn it into a commuter or light tourer.
This bike is perfect for
Riders who want a light, fast and capable hybrid bike with quality parts. If you are riding a mix of roads, old railway lines and canal towpaths this is a perfect bike.
Hybrids are the bikes that most people should have. If you want a bike for commuting, going to the shops, getting fit or just for getting around a hybrid is generally the best choice. They combine the speed of a road racing bike with the confident handling of a mountain bike to give you the best of both worlds.
The first point to think about when picking a hybrid is the kind of surfaces you will be riding on. There are two main flavours of hybrid bike. Some, like the Trek FX, Specialized Sirrus and Cannondale Quick are mainly intended for use on the road. They have bigger gears and skinnier tyres so that they are fast on tarmac. Other bikes like the Trek Dual Sport, Specialized Sirrus X or Cannondale Quick CX are designed to be used on a mixture of surfaces including tracks and gravel paths. They have bigger, grippier tyres and often come with easier gears and some suspension to soak up bumps.

Trek made their first bikes in 1976 in a barn in Wisconsin. Now they’re one of the biggest bike brands in the world. Trek bikes cover everything from professional-level road and mountain bike race bikes to commuters, hybrids and kids bikes. There is a strong heritage of racing at Trek and many Trek bikes have a strong race influence. They take a very scientific approach to researching bike and human performance and then make the fastest and most efficient bikes they can.
It doesn’t stop their attention and passion for cycling flows through everything they do. Since the 1990s, Trek has supported Places for Bikes. Places for Bikes is an advocacy organisation in the USA that gets more people on bikes more often! Places for Bikes ethos falls in line with the companies mission statement to:
Build only products we love. Provide incredible hospitality to our customers, and change the world by getting more people on bikes.
