The 2022 Specialized Diverge E5 Gravel Bike is a versatile bike on the road or dirt. The Diverge E5 is the entry level model in the Diverge range. It’s quick and lively, but stable and confidence inspiring when the terrain gets rough. With all-new gravel geometry and category leading tyre clearance it's the ultimate getaway vehicle.
The Diverge E5 comes with a premium E5 aluminium frame and a full carbon FACT fork. The new Diverge has the most progressive geometry Specialized have ever created for a drop bar bike. Giving riders a capable and stable bike in the dirt, that still feels responsive and nimble on the road. They’ve increased the frame’s reach, introduced a slacker head tube and a longer offset fork. All this creates incredible confidence with a planted feeling in the dirt. Specialized have kept the bike’s BB low to increase stability, but high enough to utilize with 650b wheels if you want to swap it up. The Diverge comes with plenty of rack mounts, including fork and top tube mounts, to ensure you can take what you need, no matter how far you plan to go, or how long you plan to stay out.
The new Diverge comes with a whopping 47mm of tyre clearance with a 700c wheel and 2.1” with a 650b wheel. The Diverge E5 comes with Shimano’s Claris 2x8 groupset including a wide range of gears for any terrain. Axis Elite alloy wheels and Pathfinder Sport 38mm tyres provide an efficient ride on pavement with the versatility for hard pack dirt riding.

The Pros of Commuting on a Gravel Bike
Gravel bikes are fast, nearly as quick as a standard road bike. They are certainly quicker on the road than most mountain bikes and many hybrids. That means you can get to work, and home, in the shortest time possible. But what makes gravel bikes so good for commuting is that they are extremely versatile. They can be ridden on tarmac, cycle paths, old railway lines, canal towpaths, and even off-road trails. So, it’s easy to mix it up on your commute and avoid traffic.
Another big advantage of commuting on a gravel bike is that they're generally more comfortable than road bikes. This is because they have wider tyres and longer wheelbases, which results in a smoother and more stable ride. So you don’t get bounced around as much on rough roads. Most gravel bikes have a fairly upright riding position which makes it easier to see what’s going on in traffic. The combination of stable handling and the comfortable riding position is a massive confidence boost for the rider, especially on wet roads.
