Having a bike is great way to give teenagers a sense of freedom, and to stop them relying on mum and dad for taxi services. With the lockdowns that have been going on in 2021 it has also been a great way for teenagers to get some exercise, meet up with friends and get into a new sport. We sell a lot of bikes to teenagers (or their parents) and below we have rounded up some of our favourites.

All of the bikes below are adult bikes but come in sizes small enough to fit the majority of teenagers. By buying an adult bike you get more choice and better value for money.

2022 Trek Marlin 4 - £450

Trek claim the Marlin is the best selling mountain bike in the world and with the number we get through we can believe it. They are especially popular with teenagers as they look fantastic and give them mountain bike styling on a bike that can also be used for getting to school. The bigger bikes (medium size and up) use a 29” wheel while the smaller sizes come with a 27.5” wheel. It is also worth knowing that the smallest bikes come with a curved top tube. The Marlin 4 is available in 4 different colours.

2022 Trek Marlin 5 - £525

While the Trek Marlin 4 is a great bike for general use like getting to school or visiting friends the Marlin 5 is the better bike if your teenager wants to ride off-road. It comes with hydraulic rather than cable disc brakes and better quality gears that can stand up to off-road use. It also comes in an XXSmall size with 26” wheels which will fit riders from 4’ 4” and upwards. It is available in 4 different colours.

2021 Orbea MX 50 - £539

Orbea 2021 MX50 in Metallic Black and Grey (2)

The Orbea MX 50 comes in 3 different colours and will suit riders from 155cm and up. The smallest size comes with 27.5” wheels and the bigger sizes with 29” wheels. It comes with a 100mm travel fork, hyrdaulic disc brakes and 2x8 speed gearing. It makes a great general use bike but also works well off-road.

2021 Specialized Rockhopper Sport - £549

2021 Specialized Rockhopper Sport

If the Trek Marlin is the best selling mountain bike in the world then the Specialized Rockhopper can’t be far behind. The Sport is the second model in the Rockhopper range and we have picked it here because it comes with the all important hydraulic disc brakes. These give much better stopping power in the wet and are a must have feature for many riders. Like the Trek the Specialized comes with 27.5” wheels on the smaller bikes and 29” wheels on the bigger bikes. Unlike the Trek they all come with the same frame design. However, Specialized do ship the small and xsmall bikes with a women’s saddle fitted. Like the Marlin the Rockhopper sport is available in 3 different colour options.

2021 GT Avalanche Sport - £600

The GT Avalanche Sport comes with clever features such as floating seat stays at the back of the bike to add more comfort when riding off-road. The Suntour forks with lockout, hydraulic disc brakes and 2x9 gearing make this a properly off-road capable bike.

2022 Whyte 403 V3 - £699

Whyte bikes are designed in the UK and are ideal for teenagers who want to do more serious mountain biking. The 403 is part of their youth range and is recommended for riders between 135 and 152cm tall, so will suit younger teenagers. It comes with an adjustable air sprung suspension fork, simple 1x gearing and powerful disc brakes.

2021 Orbea Carpe 40 - £579

2021 Orbea Carpe H40 Blue

Another one for teenagers who have style as their top priority. The Carpe is a hybrid bike designed mainly for use on the road. With simple 1x gearing and powerful disc brakes it is perfect for zipping around town. The Carpe comes in 4 different colour options including a plain black.
