Specialized Stop Making Women's Specific Bikes

Specialized Stop Making Women's Specific Bikes. Specialized has announced that they are going to Stop Making Women's Specific Bikes. Going 'beyond gender' and ditching binary classifications for their bikes. This means the end of their women’s specific bikes such as the Dolce and Ruby. Also the end of men’s specific bikes. Instead, they will make one version of each bike and make it available in a wider range of frame sizes. The end result should be a wider choice of bikes for both male and female riders.

Specialized says that while there are differences between male and female riders. There are also big differences from one male rider to another, and from one female rider to another. It, therefore, makes sense to focus on making bikes that fit riders properly. Whether they are male or female, rather than trying to push people into categories.

Specialized is following a trend that has been going on for a couple of years. Brands like Cannondale and Trek still make ‘women’s bikes. They use exactly the same frame on most women’s models as they do on the men’s bikes. They just change touch points like the handlebars and saddle. This means that male and female riders get the same quality of frame and the same level of technology on their bikes.

With Specialized’s new ‘beyond gender’ philosophy they will be using the same frames on all bikes. While making some changes to help bikes better suit women. One of the most sensitive areas on a bike is the saddle. Women generally have wider sit bones than men and work better on a 155mm saddle than a 143mm saddle. Women are generally also shorter than men. So Specialized will be spec their smaller bikes with a 155mm saddle and bigger bikes with a 143mm.

A lot of the new Specialized ‘beyond gender’ philosophy depends on the rider getting fitted properly to their bike. Also spending some time making sure it is set up correctly.
