Making Places for Bikes

What does making Places for Bikes mean? To put it simply infrastructure making riding a bike a more convenient and safer option. So how do we pay for that?

Since the 1990s, Trek has supported Places for Bikes. Places for Bikes is an advocacy organisation in the USA that gets more people on bikes more often! Places for Bikes ethos falls in line with Treks mission statement to:

Build only products we love. Provide incredible hospitality to our customers, and change the world by getting more people on bikes.

This concept has led Trek to partner with Places for Bikes. Places for Bikes uses surveys and algorithms to develop data that rates cities cycle facilities. That's everything from places to ride to parking your bike safely.

So far, the scheme has rated over five hundred and seventy-five American cities and five UK cities. This year they want to rate thirty-three London boroughs, ten greater manchester boroughs and seven boroughs in the West Midlands.

So How is it Funded?

To fund Places for Bikes, Trek donates £1 from every Bontrager and Electra Helmet sale. Cycles UK shares many values with Trek; we love bikes, and we want you to as well. That's why we supply quality products, informative write-ups and excellent service. We strive to go the extra mile to get people happy and out on their bikes. For this reason, Cycles UK will also be donating £1 from every Bontrager and Electra Helmet sale.

This pot of money will then be used to fund Places for Bikes in the UK.

The program has worked exceptionally well in the US. Trek has raised millions over the last twenty years for the scheme. Which has overseen Austin, Texas, passing a bill giving 460 million dollars towards improving cycling services in Austin.

It's an excellent opportunity for Cycles UK to improve the legacy of cycling in the UK, which we know all cyclists are passionate about. It plays an integral part in creating the infrastructures we need to support environmental travel.
