What is the Best Cycling Cafe In Essex, Cycles UK may have the answer? Cycling has become massively popular in Essex in recent years. So stopping for coffee and cake, or a bacon sandwich is an essential part of many bike rides. Dedicated cycling cafes have been springing up all over the county. Looking after cyclists but traditional tearooms and greasy spoons are also used as regular stops. Whether riding with a local cycling club, or with friends. Which café you are going to stop at often determines the route. We wanted to find the cafes that local cyclists love and help others to find them.
Cycles UK shop staff created a list of our favourite local cafes. Which we then put out a public vote on our Facebook page and now the results are in.
Cycles UK is pleased to announce that Owl Hill Tea Rooms in Terling were the breakaway winner of our 2018 Best Cycling Café in Essex award.

Sarah - “‘We are so happy to have been voted Best Cycling Cafe in Essex. When we set up our tearoom 3 years ago we wanted to ensure we supported cyclists. We knew we wanted to have delicious homemade cakes (& savoury treats) along with excellent coffee and tea. We also wanted to provide inner tubes, a track pump, locks and a puncture repair kit specifically for cyclists. Though we hope people don’t need them! We have been pleased to have had visits from cyclists from all over Essex and beyond. This award recognises the hard work we’ve put into our Tearoom so thank you”.
Lee Bolton, Cycles UK Chelmsford Store Manager, was one of several Cycles UK employees to nominate the Owl Hill Tea Rooms. He said that they have: “The best Victoria sponge cake, small but perfect for a mid-ride stop. When you're finished you have a nice 10% hill to climb up. What’s not to love”.
