The 2023 Specialized Turbo Vado SL 4.0 Electric Hybrid Bike is best for workouts, riding beyond the beaten path and last-minute adventures. All you need to do is get on and go. Built around a premium aluminium frame and with a Specialized 1.1 motor and integrated battery the Vado SL 4.0 gives up to 180% power assist. There's no other e-bike out there with ride quality, range, and power like this, at a weight that's light enough to carry. Pedal, then go—over hills and past traffic. Cruise for up to 80 miles. And at 40% lighter than the average e-bike, it’s built to bring with you: up the stairs, down the hall, and everywhere you go.
The Vado SL 4.0 comes with 11 speed SRAM mountain bike gearing and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes to ease your way up and down hills. Clean internal cable routing and reflective graphics give the bike a minimalist look. It’s an electric bike that doesn’t look like and electric bike.

What is Specialized Mission Control?
Mission Control is a free app created by Specialized to work with their Turbo electric bikes. The app is exclusive to Specialized and unlocks a lot of features which you can’t get on other electric bike systems. Specialized recommend that everyone who has one of their electric bikes should pair it to Mission Control.
Mission control has been around for a few years and has gradually been evolving and improving. It covers four main areas:
- Track your rides – record speed, distance, maps etc
- Tune your ride – adjust max power, acceleration and other settings
- Manage your ride – make sure you don’t run out of power
- Fix your ride – get notified of errors and access diagnostics, including suggested fixes

Electric Bike Hub Motors vs Mid-Drive Motors
Electric bikes tend to either come with a hub motor or a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors sit where the cranks and bottom bracket are on a bike and drive the cranks and chain around. Hub drive motors sit in the middle of the wheel and drive the wheel directly. Hub drive electric bikes are cheaper but less efficient, and less smooth, to ride.
