The 2021 Specialized Turbo Creo SL Comp Carbon Evo Electric Bike in Sage Green is a gravel bike that comes with electrical assistance to boost your ride. The Turbo Creo SL EVO is here to assist you further into the forest, down the gravel road, or on your next adventure. It features the same motor, battery, and frame as its road-oriented cousin, but takes advantage of extra tyre clearance and adds in some adventure-ready components to take you wherever your heart desires.

The Turbo Creo SL Comp Carbon Evo is the lightest e-bike in its class, literally kilograms lighter than the competition. It is built around a Fact 11r carbon frame, the same one on the top of the range S-Works road model. This is a unisex bike with geometry that's a best-fit for all riders. One that's comfortable and snappy on the road, yet features all of the attributes you'd want from a proper gravel bike—a long wheelbase, raked-out fork, and low bottom bracket that keeps the Turbo Creo SL EVO stable at high speeds and delivers control in corners.

The Turbo Creo SL comes with the Future Shock 2.0 which offers a small amount of front suspension. You'll feel a reduction in fatigue and an increase in speed, no matter the terrain. The 2.0 iteration gives you more control via a knob atop the stem. This knob adjusts compression from fully-open to stiff, while hydraulically-damped internals control rebound. The new Smooth Boot, top cap, and Future Stem also enhance the aesthetic, so you get a clean transition from head tube to stem.

The lightweight SL 1.1 motor doubles your effort with as much as 240 watts of silent and powerful assistance to amplify your ride. The motor’s responsive torque curve delivers power perfectly in-tune with your normal riding cadence and leaves no resistance when riding unassisted. With up to 80 miles of range from the internal battery, the Creo SL eats up big miles and long days. An optional range extender is available which provides up to 40 additional miles of mountain-flattening power.

The Turbo Creo SL Comp Carbon EVO features a 1x Shimano GRX group set to take on shifting and braking duties, while DT R470 Boost™ wheels get wrapped in wide 38mm Pathfinder Pro tyres to keep you rolling fast and free on either pavement or dirt. And for the saddle, you'll find that a fan-favourite Body Geometry Power Sport provides plenty of comfort, while the X-Fusion Manic Dropper Post comes in handy when the descents get a little hairy.

This bike is perfect for

Gravel riders who want a lightweight carbon bike with the extra boost of an electric motor. With plenty of tyre clearance and suspension the Turbo Creo SL Comp Carbon Evo will revolutionise your riding.

What is Specialized Mission Control?

Mission Control is a free app created by Specialized to work with their Turbo electric bikes. The app is exclusive to Specialized and unlocks a lot of features which you can’t get on other electric bike systems. Specialized recommend that everyone who has one of their electric bikes should pair it to Mission Control.

Mission control has been around for a few years and has gradually been evolving and improving. It covers four main areas:

  1. Track your rides – record speed, distance, maps etc
  2. Tune your ride – adjust max power, acceleration and other settings
  3. Manage your ride – make sure you don’t run out of power
  4. Fix your ride – get notified of errors and access diagnostics, including suggested fixes

Electric Bike Motors Explained

Electric bikes have really come into their own in the last couple of years. Thanks to advances in electric bike motors and batteries. A couple of bike manufacturers, most notably Specialized, are making their own electric bike motors. The vast majority of bike companies are using the same motors. So, you will find exactly the same electric motor being used on bikes from different brands and at different price points. In this guide, we’ll take you through the main types of electric bike motors. Look at the differences between the most commonly used brands.

Electric Bike Hub Motors vs Mid-Drive Motors

Electric bikes tend to either come with a hub motor or a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors sit where the cranks and bottom bracket are on a bike and drive the cranks and chain around. Hub drive motors sit in the middle of the wheel and drive the wheel directly. Hub drive electric bikes are cheaper but less efficient, and less smooth, to ride.

Who are Specialized?

Specialized is one of the best-known quality bike brands in the world. Started by a group of riders in 1974. A fact which has guided their decision making ever since.

" Made for riders, by riders."

They strove to make the best quality tires when quality tyres weren't around. When people wanted to ride cruisers in the dirt, they made the first production mountain bike. When roadies wanted to go faster, Specialized doubled down on carbon and built their own wind tunnel.

Bikes like the Allez, Rockhopper and Stumpjumper have developed followings and reputations of their own. Specialized has a reputation for making high-end, high-quality bikes. Specialized bikes always look great with high-quality paint and sensible sizing hel0s you get the right bike each time. If you buy a Specialized bike you can be guaranteed it will do what it is supposed to and will last.
