The 2021 Specialized Turbo Como 4.0 Electric Hybrid Bike in Dove Grey is designed to combine speed and comfort. The low step frame makes getting on and off the bike and putting a foot down super easy and when you are ready to go the electric motor will help you get up to speed. The riding position on the Como is a very traditional upright one, so it is easy on your back and you have great visibility.

The Turbo Como uses a specially tuned version to the Specialized’s own 1.2 motor. The 1.2 E with Custom Rx Street Tune gives less torque but more efficiency in a near-silent operating design that makes it more usable for an urban environment.

For the Como 4.0 Specialized developed a custom U1-500 battery that seamlessly integrates into the frame. It is lockable but easily removable for charging. The battery on the Comp 4.0 is 500 Wh, compared to the 460 Wh battery on the Como 3.0 so you get extra range.

This model comes with smooth and fast-rolling 700c wheels have been paired with cushy 50mm tyres so it can roll over most cracks bumps and holes with ease. It also comes with reliable Shimano 10-speed gears which have a bigger range than the ones on the Como 3.0 so it is easier to get up hills. The bike also comes fitted with powerful hydraulic disc brakes, pannier racks, mudguards and bright LED lights at the front and rear of the bike so you are ready to ride.

This bike is perfect for

Riders who want a comfortable bike for getting around town that also has the extra boost of a smooth and quiet electric motor. The Como 4.0 gives you more gears and more range so it is ready to take on hillier and longer rides.

Key Features

  • The custom Turbo Aluminum Low-Entry frame on the Como cleanly houses the battery and motor, while still keeping the lightweight properties that E5 is known for. Pair this with our Ground Control Geometry, and you have a durable and lightweight bike that'll keep you rolling in style.
  • The Turbo Como’s Specialized 1.2 E motor emphasizes efficiency and range. It's also fully integrated with the frame, and has been custom-tuned for city riding. It intuitively reacts to the force of your pedaling, so the harder you pedal, the more power it delivers. And with an internal belt drive design, it does this without added vibration for the smoothest and most silent ride possible.
  • We made the custom 500 Wh battery to be fully integrated with the frame, removable for easy charging, and lockable for added security. It communicates with the display and has multiple modes to maximize the overall efficiency and range.

What is Specialized Mission Control?

Mission Control is a free app created by Specialized to work with their Turbo electric bikes. The app is exclusive to Specialized and unlocks a lot of features which you can’t get on other electric bike systems. Specialized recommend that everyone who has one of their electric bikes should pair it to Mission Control.

Mission control has been around for a few years and has gradually been evolving and improving. It covers four main areas:

  1. Track your rides – record speed, distance, maps etc
  2. Tune your ride – adjust max power, acceleration and other settings
  3. Manage your ride – make sure you don’t run out of power
  4. Fix your ride – get notified of errors and access diagnostics, including suggested fixes

Electric Bike Motors Explained

Electric bikes have really come into their own in the last couple of years. Thanks to advances in electric bike motors and batteries. A couple of bike manufacturers, most notably Specialized, are making their own electric bike motors. The vast majority of bike companies are using the same motors. So, you will find exactly the same electric motor being used on bikes from different brands and at different price points. In this guide, we’ll take you through the main types of electric bike motors. Look at the differences between the most commonly used brands.

Electric Bike Hub Motors vs Mid-Drive Motors

Electric bikes tend to either come with a hub motor or a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors sit where the cranks and bottom bracket are on a bike and drive the cranks and chain around. Hub drive motors sit in the middle of the wheel and drive the wheel directly. Hub drive electric bikes are cheaper but less efficient, and less smooth, to ride.

Who are Specialized?

Specialized is one of the best-known quality bike brands in the world. Started by a group of riders in 1974. A fact which has guided their decision making ever since.

" Made for riders, by riders."

They strove to make the best quality tires when quality tyres weren't around. When people wanted to ride cruisers in the dirt, they made the first production mountain bike. When roadies wanted to go faster, Specialized doubled down on carbon and built their own wind tunnel.

Bikes like the Allez, Rockhopper and Stumpjumper have developed followings and reputations of their own. Specialized has a reputation for making high-end, high-quality bikes. Specialized bikes always look great with high-quality paint and sensible sizing hel0s you get the right bike each time. If you buy a Specialized bike you can be guaranteed it will do what it is supposed to and will last.
