Team GB's Caz Kinash drops by...

Our Watford bike shop was a flurry of anticipation, as Team GB triathlete Caroline (Caz to her friends and bike mechanics!) Kinash popped in for a session with our renowned in house physiotherapist Bianca Broadbent.

Cycles UK bike shop manager Siraz took her a mug of tea, and grabbed the chance to quiz her on the sport and how she's become such a rapid success!

Here's what she said -

When did you begin competing, why is triathlon the event for you?

Triathlons are something I always wanted to do from a young age. I was an international runner for Hong Kong and when I left I had an interest in doing tris because of the different sports. I did my first ever tri 10 years ago. I only had a mountain bike at the time and 20km took me about an hour and a half, so this really put me off. At the time i was still at uni so could not afford a road bike.

Three years ago I joined the local David Lloyd Tri club to meet new people in the Oxford area which we had just moved to. I signed up for the Blehneim palace tri in 2012 and bought my first road bike.

What does she find the biggest physical challenge of competing in triathlon?

Mentally it is pretty tough doing sprint tri's as you are basically going as hard as you can but its just over an hour. You need to be mentally focussed to push through the pain.
I am new to cycling so this is still my weaker area but each year I improve on this.

What specific areas will you be focusing on in the fit

I have had a few injuries, so I am hoping to improve these through my position on the bike.

What is she hoping to see as a result of the fit?

Trying to increase power on the bike through my position.

When is her next competitive event and what does she hope for the season?

Next big event in 9th July Europeans in Geneva. They are pretty tough races, so I would be happy for somewhere in the top 20. I have a few lower key races leading up to this.
